Welcome

About LINKS

LINKS is the student arm of a major first aid charity. As a student in LINKS, there are many opportunities available to you such as First aid, Socialising, Training and Volunteering. Membership is free and brings a whole world of experiences and fun, and all we ask in return for courses is a small commitment of about 15 hours per year in support/duty hours. You can join at anytime in the academic year.

First aid

Portsmouth LINKS provide first aid cover for our student union and the wider community. There is the potential to save a life or help look after an injured member of the public in an extremely rewarding service to the community. You'll have the opportunity to do a wide range of roles from Frontline Ambulance Crew to administration assistant; you won't be forced to do anything you do not wish to and we are sure to find something you'll enjoy.

See the Duties page for upcoming first aid duties.

Socialising

We meet regularly during term time and often out of term time and have regular social events to meet all tastes. This provides a great opportunity to meet new people both within the organisation and outside it. As most students at university live away from home, LINKS offers a varied social life with members soon feeling part of the family. We often have annual balls and teambuilding weekends that allow members to relax and forget about our studies for a few days. In-line with most LINKS units we have a very active social life and are usually out on the town most weeks, or off an a road trip or holiday. Previous socials include the usual fancy dress clubbing, day trips to Belgium and France, road trips across Europe, bowling, Playzone, laser quest, ice skating, etc.

Training

We train regularly, normally on a Monday evening at the union (7pm) during term time. Such sessions teach members new skills and help them to develop their first aid. The more experienced members have the opportunity to teach the newer members and get the reward of helping them in their development within the organisation. We also run advanced courses right up to ones allowing you to crew a Frontline ambulance.

See the training page for a list of our upcoming training events.

Volunteering

We offer many opportunities to volunteer in your local community. Whether this is through providing first aid services, training in first aid or youth work - there is something for everyone. We have an extremely vibrant youth section with many opportunities to work with young people of all age ranges. We are totally student run, so there are opportunities for members to take leading roles in the management of the group. There are plentiful opportunities to enhance your CV and you will enjoy doing so!

Every student will have been told that university is more than a degree, it's an education. LINKS allows for this with members choosing how much time they want to give and how / when they want to spend this time.
